Seed Collection Workshop - Macedon
Description
Following on from our series of TreeProject plant propagation sessions, Upper Deep Creek Landcare Network invites you to a seed collection workshop, led by Seeding Victoria.
Seeding Victoria is a community not-for-profit working hard to provide provenance-based seed supply for revegetation projects throughout Central, South West and North West Victoria. The work of Seeding Victoria is crucial to the implementation of successful restoration.
This workshop is aimed at local landcare and community members with an interest in contributing to restoration projects through the planting of indigenous plants. In this beginner training session, participants will learn how to identify, collect, clean and store native seed for use in revegetation projects.
We are particularly interested in accessing more indigenous seed for Landcare TreeProject orders and increasing knowledge and skills within our landcare networks. Seed is the critical first step in any successful revegetation project, and we need to ensure that landcare groups continue to be able to access good quality, provenance-based, genetically diverse seed.
This training session will focus on;
The foundations of ethical seed collecting, species identification, permits and permissions, OH&S, collection techniques, extraction and storage.
This is a free event, places are limited, registrations essential for catering purposes.
