Description

As Buarth Gurru (Grass Flowering Season) begins, many native plants are setting seed and preparing for the warmer months ahead.

Join Council's expert Biodiversity Officers for a relaxed 1.5-hour guided walk exploring local wildflowers, native grasses and some of Nillumbik's special threatened plant species. Learn about seasonal changes in local ecosystems and discover how citizen science apps can help you record wildlife and plant observations that contribute to conservation and land management. Gain practical skills in observing and identifying biodiversity while developing a deeper appreciation of our local natural environment. Suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced nature enthusiasts

What to Expect and Bring

These guided walks are designed for people of all experience levels, from curious beginners to keen naturalists. Led by Council's expert Biodiversity Officers, each walk will explore local plants, wildlife and seasonal changes in the environment, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn about Nillumbik's unique biodiversity.

Walks run for approximately 1.5 hours at a relaxed pace and include sections of uneven ground, natural surfaces and rough bush tracks.

We recommend bringing:

Sturdy enclosed walking shoes
A hat and sun protection
Drinking water
Weather-appropriate clothing
Binoculars and a camera (optional)
iNaturalist app installed on phone (optional)

Access and Inclusion

Council is committed to creating inclusive and welcoming events for everyone. Please note that these walks take place in natural bushland settings and involve walking for approximately 1.5 hours on uneven terrain, including some rough and unsealed tracks. Accessibility varies between locations.

If you have specific access requirements or would like to discuss whether a walk is suitable for your needs, please contact Council before the event so we can provide further information and support wherever possible. All participants are welcome, regardless of prior knowledge or experience.
