Fizzi / Elizabeth Reynolds, Lawyer - resident of Eumundi for 20 years, but latterly of Noosa, and her best friend since childhood, Lili /Linda Wills, watercolour artist, were concerned about the plight of the koalas. "Let's create a book to highlight the issues". Rejected by traditional publishers, they self published a Trilogy of magical children's picture books. 10,000 copies now sold worldwide, thousands of dollars given back to local koala conservation projects and more to local charities. Eumundi Markets played their part. Two handwritten letters from Sir David Attenborough and one from the King at Buckingham Palace, attest to Karla's worldwide fan base.
Joni Scott is a local author with five published novels, historical and contemporary. Joni is also a biochemist and tutor. Publishing her first manuscript happened without a lot of research into the confusing world of publishing. The first went to a trade publisher. Then she wrote four more books and tried the hybrid model and total self publishing. Which is the best? Each has its pros and cons. Joni continues to write and views it as an expensive hobby rather than a serious vocation.
