Intended Participants
This online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event is intended for Speech-Language Therapists working in a paediatric setting with children aged from 4-6 years of age with developmental language disorder, however, intervention principles may also apply to children outside this age range and those with more complex needs. Participants will be assumed to have knowledge of childhood language disorders (i.e. specific language impairment, developmental language disorder).
Readings and Resources
Pre-readings will be emailed to participants 1 month prior to the workshop.
Learning Objectives
Following this event participants will be able to:
- Briefly outline why semantic and narrative skills are critical for academic success.
- Briefly outline semantic and narrative development in typically developing children in the age range 2-5 years.
- Be familiar with a list of quality semantic and narrative assessment tools.
- Describe key elements of semantic and narrative interventions for children with language disorders from quality research studies.
- Be able to identify appropriate intervention goals and plan intervention activities related to semantic and narrative interventions
- Reflect on research on effectiveness of intervention in these areas.
Content and Format
This workshop will examine current evidence-based practice in semantics and narrative intervention in preschool and early school-aged children.
