Details

Shein, Boohoo, Temu… Fast fashion is creating a nightmare for a our planet. Globally, fashion production comprises 10% of total carbon emissions, as much as the European Union. It dries up water sources and pollutes rivers and streams, while 85% of all textiles go to dumps each year.

With new seasons and a never ending revolving door of new styles, it’s easy to get pulled into the trap of buying more, buying cheap, move on and throw away.

So how do you create a plastic-free, ethical, fashionable wardrobe on a budget? To answer that question we welcome back Andrea Marsden, the queen of all things fabric, to host this special this special #actsofconnection Fashion Revolution Week event.

Location: ThinkSpace, Level 2, Jane Foss Russell Building (G02) (Above SciTech library), 160 City Road Darlington Campus, The University of Sydney NSW 2006.

Stitch Craft in ThinkSpace | University of Sydney Library

ThinkSpace is a technology showcase and creative play space, aimed at sparking ideas and providing opportunities for collaboration. Thanks to our most recent round of Sustainability Action Grants, the space now hosts a 'slow fashion' hub on campus. Dubbed "StitchCraft", the space will be stocked with sewing machines, equipment and second-hand fabrics to allow you to mend, repair, recycle and remake clothes. We invite all students and staff to utilise this space. The Library hosts regular, free sewing skills-based workshops if you need to brush up on your sewing skills!
