Event description

"Building a Speak-Up Culture of Inclusion"

with Mark Bloodworth from Lifeblood Performance

Did you know that companies are not capitalising on the diversity they have because management too often elicits and endorses ideas of people like themselves? This is called an affinity bias; it’s a natural human bias, and it can’t be overcome with good intentions alone! As leaders, we have to work on ourselves and the company culture to get all the benefits of the diversity within our organisations.

Leaders and companies that understand this create what is called a “Speak-Up” culture. It’s a healthy, supportive environment where team members feel encouraged to share their ideas, opinions, and concerns; without fear of retaliation, undo criticism, or penalty. Some workplaces associate it with calling out toxic company culture or even a toxic individual member of staff (remember the push against workplace bullying that started a few years ago?), however it should also refer to people feeling comfortable to express different ideas, opinions on tactics or strategy, or promote different business models that have previously gone unexplored.

So how do we get there from here?

Join us as Mark Bloodworth - Leadership, Teams, and Behaviour Change Coach with Lifeblood Performance talks about how to build this “speak-up” culture, and why leaders must have an acquired appreciation for difference if they are to foster the collaboration that is the real benefit of diversity. It’s the only way to overcome the affinity bias!

Presenter Bio:

With 30 years experience, Mark takes a boots-on-the ground approach to ensuring that he knows your business objectives before creating a bespoke action plan to transform your teams.
Mark uses a scientific behavioural change model as a framework for his coaching and team development workshops. This results in more open and collaborative conversations that improve business performance with stronger team member engagement.
As the Founder of Lifeblood Performance, his clients value the infectious positivity combined with upfront honesty that he brings to the game. Having seen the lack of frontline leadership development first hand during much of his professional career, he started Lifeblood Performance as a way to bridge the gap between the workforce and management.
