Event description
Explore the terroir of the Pacific through your senses.
You will be travelling with Jane from The Ideasmith and Fi from Ka kā wā Confectionary to traverse the landscapes of the Pacific and its different flavour notes. Learn more about the people and their stories behind the product.
Highlighting 4 handcrafters of fine NZ-made bean-to-bar chocolate, tasting through the different countries of origin and their flavour notes. From bean to bar we are focusing on a range of 70% dark chocolates for this session, finishing off with a nourishing hot cup of Ka kā wā specialty cacao.
This is part of the journey for founder Fi of Ka kā wā to fundraise to travel to the Solomon Islands to meet the cacao farmers, whenua and trees.
All chocolate will be delicious and incidentally gluten and dairy-free.
Who are we?
I am Jane, and I have a not-so-secret passion for chocolate, and years of hands-on
experience making chocolate. As a food designer, I get to think about food for a job, I
think about food in an abstract creative way, I think about food for sustenance, I think
about food for the enjoyment of others. I think about the history and culture of food, I
love to talk about food, and I may possibly/probably think about food, taste food, and
make more food than is good for me.
Fi (Marotini) Clements is the Founder and chief chocolatier of Ka kā wā Confectionary.
Ka kā wā envisions a world where each individual is deeply connected to their whakapapa, where the sacred rhythm of Aotearoa’s whenua and the collective spirit of its takata are infused in every aspect of daily life.
We strive to be a beacon for regeneration, tradition and innovation, bridging the ancestral past with a vibrant, thriving future.
In our world chocolate isn't just a treat; it's a cultural experience, a medium for healing, and a catalyst for unity and joy. Ka kā wā creates time and space for you to reignite the inner fire, join us for delicious treats and experience the heart-opening rongoā held within cacao.
Our vegan and gluten-free treats hand-crafted on the beautiful whenua of Kāi Tahu, Kāti Māmoe and Waitaha in Waitati, treats delight your senses, uplift your mauri and nourish your soul.
