The session begins with an artist talk by architect Leon Koumouris, considering sensory space and the ways architecture can influence how we perceive, move through and respond to an environment.

Olfactory artist and perfumer Clara Chanisheff will then lead a hands on scent workshop, introducing participants to a curated palette of molecules. Through guided smelling and experimentation, participants will explore how different materials can evoke qualities of place, materiality and atmosphere before composing and bottling their own fragrance to take home.

No previous experience with fragrance is required.

Clara Chanisheff is a Melbourne based olfactory artist whose practice works across scent, sculpture and sensory research. Her work explores smell as both a material and a form of information, with a particular interest in how scent shapes our perception of bodies, objects and spaces.

Leon Koumouris is a Melbourne-based architect, educator and founding director of Koumouris Oberin Partners, an architecture practice based between Melbourne and Paris. He is an Education Fellow in Architectural Design at the University of Melbourne and a graduate of ETSAB in Barcelona and the University of Technology Sydney.

Working across architecture, residential design, hospitality and scenography, his practice is concerned with the relationship between history, function, beauty and space, and how architecture shapes the way we experience and inhabit our surroundings.
