A bit about Dr Kate Barrelle
Kate is the Chief Impact Officer at STREAT, a Melbourne-based social enterprise that she co-founded a decade ago with her incredible wife Bec Scott. Kate is forensic and clinical psychologist with 25 years of experience working in community, government, private sector, research and social enterprise with young people. As a behavioural change expert, she has always specialised in building bridges for youth assessed as ‘at risk’, or ‘risky’. Mostly they need support to meet their needs, a sense of identity and connection, strong but respectful boundaries, and real opportunities. Her international award-winning PhD involved interviews with former extremists about how and why they left. Kate is also the handler of ‘Magic’ – the Therapy Dog at STREAT. If she had a superpower, it would be flying! She got lots of injuries as a kid testing this out.
