Nick Forster, the founder and CEO of eTown, a member of the award-winning band Hot Rize, and a true Boulder icon, brings his signature warmth and insight to The Talk of Our Town. This series invites notable guests to dive deep into the people, culture, and stories that have made Boulder the city it is today.

This month, The Talk of Our Town features Jim Guercio.

Born in 1945 in Chicago, Illinois, Jim Guercio is the Chief Executive of The Caribou Companies in Boulder, Colorado.

As a guitarist, bass player, arranger and composer, Jim started in the music business with Dick Clark in 1962, touring and performing with Gene Pitney, Brian Hyland, Del Shannon, Chuck Berry, Bobby Darin and Chad and Jeremy. He was an original guitarist with Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention along with producing, arranging and composing numerous hits for Chad and Jeremy and the Buckinghams.

He also won two Grammy Awards for his work as a music producer including Album of the Year in 1969 for Blood, Sweat & Tears. In 1971, Jim acquired his legendary Caribou Ranch studio which recorded artists including Chicago, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Phil Collins, Earth, Wind and Fire, Rod Stewart, Amy Grant, Billy Joel, Elton John, Carole King, John Lennon, The Beach Boys, Waylon Jennings, Stephen Stills, Supertramp, Jeff Beck, Manassas, War, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and U2.

He has over 36 Grammy nominations. Winner of Grammy Awards for: Blood, Sweat and Tears (Album of the Year / Producer) (1969); If You Leave Me Now Chicago ( Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) / Producer ) (1976). He produced numerous works by Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Chicago and the Beach Boys. 

Under Caribou Films, Jim produced and directed Electra Glide in Blue, starring Robert Blake, the American entry in the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, and in 1979, produced Second Hand Hearts, directed by Hal Ashby. He was the original director for Tom Horn starring Steve McQueen in 1979. Earlier this month, Jim was honored for his film Electra Glide in Blue at the Oldenburg Film Festival in Oldenburg, Germany.  

In 1986, Jim was the primary founder and chairman of Country Music Television which was sold to Gaylord/Westinghouse in 1991. In 1989, Jim acquired the historic OW ranch in Montana and started building an assemblage of what now encompasses 100,000 acres in southeastern Montana. 

He has been married to Lucy Angle Guercio for 54 years, has three children: Katharine, William, and Peter and has five grandchildren: Andrew, Samuel, Emerson, Louise and Jade, and resides in Boulder County, Colorado. 

At eTown's Talk of Our Town events, you’ll connect with new and veteran Boulderites, so plan to come early and stay late to mix and mingle in the eTown café. The café offers a variety of beers, wines, cocktails, and tasty sweet and savory bites.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the conversation beginning at 7 p.m.

With every eTown ticket purchase, you're supporting the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. eTown donates $1 per ticket to Conscious Alliance, aiding hunger relief, youth programs and sustainable solutions for the Oglala Lakota Nation.
