September Downtemple & Cacao - 'Fall Inward'
Event description
Movement - Expression- Connection- Reverence
This event, created by Chelsea Amber, is a ceremony of connection, Cacao, guided movement, and free-form dance medicine in a downtempo-esque container. The pace is slower...like a steady burning flame, inviting us to drop deeper into presence with every delicious movement.
This September our theme is 'Falling Inward- An invitation to lean back into the wisdom inside.'
As a space holder and a facilitator, often I theme or teach based on what I need to learn or practice. What I can speak to best is what I am learning myself! Amidst an explosive, busy, outward summer I am in deep need of the reminder to come back towards myself and remember that everything I am seeking to know or learn is already inside me...and that is true for all of us. Mythologist and storyteller Michael Meade says "when we begin to feel diminished by the chaos and the confusion in the world, there are two places to turn to. We can turn to our innate connection to the stars.... or we can look inward where the inner light of the soul wants to receive our attention in order that it might grow." The season of Fall always reminds me to slow down and remember my inner wisdom. My intention with DTC September is to create a space supportive of that remembering for us all. Anddd it's also Friday the 13th so you know it's gon' be somethin'.
Special guest creators for this month will include Jill Hardy sharing a juicy partner contact warm-up (description below), myself (Presencia) spinning our movement journey, and Sam David sharing closing sounds. I so hope you will join us on our journey this month!

'Fall Awakening' Warm-up:
Jill will warm up the evening with a partnered “fall awakening” exercise that will transport you to the redwoods. Earthy duff, dense mist, leaves crunching underfoot. Let your imagination conjure the scene as you explore the dynamics of give and take between the lead and follow in a duet, leaving you with a new understanding of just how much choice and influence the follow holds in a partnered dance.

About the Cacao:
Cacao is a delicious, heart-opening medicine with indigenous roots all over the world. Drinking cacao in ceremony where one is invited to connect with the spirit of cacao and invite it into the heart space can bring profound healing experiences, especially when combined with movement such as dance. Cacao is just one more way to infuse Love into your dance!
The cacao we will drink comes from Alta-Verapaz, Guatemala and was processed in Lago Atítlan, Guatemala by a collective of women indigenous to Lago Atítlan. This ceremonial-grade cacao, 'Ruk'u'xUlew', means 'heart of the earth' in Kaqchikel, one indigenous language of Lago Atítlan. We will collectively gather in ceremony to serve and bless the cacao before we drink! To learn more about Ruk'u'xUlew Cacao, visit https://www.rukuxulew.com.
