We have brought it back, Whai Wahitanga is updated and online on Thursday, September 24th, 2026! Facilitated by the legendary youth mentoring trainer Rod Baxter, you'll learn all about encouraging active youth participation in mentoring.
Workshop Objectives
Deepen your understanding of effective mentoring, with a focus on the perspectives and realities of young people.
Learn with and from young people as they help lead parts of the training.
Support young people to confidently share their mentoring experiences.
Explore what helps and what gets in the way of young people engaging in mentoring.
Understand the conditions needed for genuine youth participation — what must be in place for it to be real.
Build familiarity with key models and frameworks, beginning with mātauranga Māori and placing ourselves in a global context.
Reflect on your own practice and your organisation’s ability to include young people in decisions that impact them.
Strengthen the skills of mentors and mentoring organisations to support youth participation in decision-making.
Grow your regional and national connections across Aotearoa’s youth mentoring community.
Who should attend?
This workshop is for people who work with young people, including: mentors, mentor programme providers, youth workers, educators, school counsellors, pastors, central and local government agency staff and community workers.
Registration fee
There is a registration fee of $60 plus GST and booking fee.
