A Grampians Wine Tasting Masterclass At Home
THE GRAMPIANS, known for its warm days and cool nights, has been the perfect place for the wide variety of grapes grown in the area to thrive since planting began at St Peters Vineyard in 1863. But if there is one variety that the region is known for, it is its distinctive Shiraz.
The National Wine Centre and Grampians Winemakers have teamed up to bring you three virtual Shiraz masterclasses across the 29th & 30th of October.
Join Sommelier James Boden, winemakers and recognised faces from the award-winning wine region who will take you on a Seriously Shiraz-filled experience, tasting wine delivered to your door.
Shiraz lovers will marvel at the cool-climate treasures that can be sampled in a choice of three virtual masterclasses:

1. Grampians Shiraz - IN THE CELLAR (tickets close 25 October)
Grampians Shiraz is well known for its' cellaring ability. Participants will enjoy and learn about how this varietal evolves as it ages in the cellar.
The six wines on offer include a National Wine Show Gold Medal winning 2014 Bin 1 Shiraz by Bests' Wines and the critically acclaimed 2018 Talus Shiraz by Mount Langi Ghiran.
Connoisseurs and collectors will also appreciate the chance to taste and purchase the 2018 Reserve Shiraz Barrique, a collaboration wine only ever available at the iconic Grampians Grape Escape festival.

2. Grampians Shiraz - GREAT WESTERN (tickets close 25 October)
Stories of pioneers and family traditions will transport you to the enchanting wine village of Great Western.
This masterclass is not only about stepping back to the gold rush days, as participants will not only hear from the seasoned experts, but also from new winemakers in the region, who have been busy experimenting with techniques and pushing boundaries, making a little history of their own.
There are some significant wines to be enjoyed in this masterclass, including the 2017 R.Lane Syrah from The Story Wines and of course a St Peters Shiraz from Seppelt Wines.

3. Grampians Shiraz - VINTAGE 2017 (tickets close 25 October)
2017 was a wonderful year for Shiraz in the Grampians, and this is the perfect opportunity to find out why. We invite you to come along with us to unpack and experience Grampians Shiraz from 2017 produced by six different wineries. Relish in the opportunity to hear direct from the winemaker on how vineyard location and winemaking techniques can affect the finished product
2017 was such a fine vintage in the Grampians region that many a bottle received accolades in the coveted Halliday Wine Companion Awards including Clarnette & Ludvigsen, SubRosa and Fallen Giants, all on offer in this tasting.
As with all masterclasses, guests sample the best of the region and can then head online to purchase their favourites of the evening.

How it works:
- Masterclasses will be held via Zoom.
- 50 ml samples of the wines will be delivered in the days prior and up to 12noon on the day of the masterclass. The National Wine Centre will work to government guidelines to ensure a safe and sanitary delivery process.
- You will be sent information about how to store the wine, a meeting invitation to the Zoom, including a weblink ad password, and tasting notes the night before the masterclass via email.
- The wines will be poured into tubes for your consumption at home through the National Wine Centre's Enomatic machines preventing oxygen and hands from interacting with your wine (watch here).
- All you need is 6 glasses for the wine to go in, and either a computer with internet access or a smartphone. You will be able to participate in discussion throughout the class if you like, if your technology allows.
