Event description

Setting up and using A and B choices

Masterclass (Family)

What are the expected behaviours on the bus? What are the expected behaviours in the playground? What are the expected behaviours when visiting the bathroom? How do we know what the expected behaviours are? What happens when we do an unexpected behaviour? For many individuals on the autism spectrum, it can be very challenging in working out what the expected behaviours are for different social situations.

The program ‘The Way to A ©’ and the Social Behaviour Mapping tool can support professionals to develop individuals understanding and confidence in identifying and using the expected behaviours, or ‘A’ choices, in different social situations. The program and tool focus on using an individual’s strengths to develop a deeper understanding of what the expected behaviours are, and what happens when unexpected behaviours are used.

These programs and strategies can be implemented 1:1 for individuals on the spectrum, to groups of people, and as whole site approaches.

This Masterclass is suitable for parents and carers supporting individuals aged 5-12.

If this workshop is full, please contact Emma Bennett on ebennett@autismsa.org.au.

Family Workshops are designed for any family member including parents, carers, siblings and extended family members with a loved one on the autism spectrum. The workshops provide examples and strategies that are relevant for family members.
