Seven’s Next Steps – with Anthony De Ceglie

It’s been a turbulent and challenging year at the Seven Network, with leadership changes across its news division. 

Leading the way is a 38-year-old print journalist with no broadcast experience overseeing Seven West Media’s portfolio of news and current affairs programs, including 7News, Sunrise, The Morning Show and Spotlight.

Anthony De Ceglie, who was Editor-in-Chief of West Australian Newspapers, took on the top job at Seven West Media in April.

As SWM’s Director of News and Current Affairs and Editor-in-Chief, Anthony promised to “innovate’’ and urged his team to “…be a bit bolder and a bit braver to capture new audiences.”’  

Since taking on the role, Anthony has overhauled almost the entire news leadership team at Seven and launched its new national news desk.

Six months on, Anthony’s at the Melbourne Press Club to speak about the new role and how he’s preparing SWM for the future.

About Anthony

Anthony De Ceglie is from Fremantle and his first job in newspapers was at The Collie Mail in rural Western Australia. 

He previously worked as a reporter with The Sunday Times before becoming chief of staff and deputy editor of the newspaper and its website PerthNow.

In 2011, he helped launch the iPad newspaper The Daily during a secondment to New York before moving to Sydney to work for The Daily Telegraph in 2016.

He was deputy editor at The Daily Telegraph and became Editor-in-Chief of West Australian Newspapers in 2019, overseeing The West Australian, The Sunday Times, PerthNow and the company’s 19 regional and 12 community newspapers. He launched the digital evening newspaper, The Nightly, and established the live community sports platform Streamer.

Anthony has won three Walkley Awards.
