Sew Your Own Christmas Stocking 11/23
Event description
Make Your Own Christmas Stockings!
- Saturday, November 23rd, 12-2pm.
$25 - Bring some materials you'd like to make your stocking out of!*
This class will teach you to sew a Christmas stocking from fabric, scraps, or an old quilt.
You can even take this to another level with embroidery, buttons, fabric yo-yos or other embellishments or use your mending skills from our Mending class or Shashiko classes with Ms Sue and bring those pieces you’ve hand crafted to life! Or take your finished Christmas stocking to that class for even more creative ideas.
This is a great way to reuse items that maybe are past their prime. You could make a new heirloom out of a worn out one. The pattern involves curves, so a good understanding of basic to intermediate sewing skills are important.
*Materials necessary:
- Bring your own machine, or borrow one of our vintage machines. (Please don’t forget your machine pedal and power cord)
- Thread
- Fabric Scissors or a Rotary Cutter if you have
- Fabric, “cutter” quilt (one you’re ok with cutting up), denim or really anything you’d like to use as your outside. Coordinating fabric for the lining. Pieces should be about 1/2 a yard or more for the outside and another piece about 1/2 yard for the interior lining. Fabric, thread, and some quilt “flimsies” are available for purchase at ScrapRVA.
This class is taught by one of our long-time instructors, Molly.
