Building 211, Room 222 (near Beazley Ave entrance). Centre for Aboriginal Studies - Curtin University.
bentley, australia
Event description
Rates of sexual harassment in the workplace continue to be alarming.
Latest research shows that:
- 41% of women and 26% of men have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace in the past five years.
- 46% of migrant and refugee women in Australia have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace in the past five years.
- There has been a 52% increase in workplace sexual harassment in Australian universities between 2018-2023.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers, members of the LGBTIQA+ community, people with disabilities and young people face higher rates of sexual harassment in the workplace than others.
Things clearly need to change. Since December 2022, Australian organisations and businesses have a positive duty under the Sex Discrimination Act to take steps to prevent sex discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace.
Join our panellists to discuss how we can work positively and proactively to stop sexual harassment in the workplace.
Panellists include:
- Zaneta Mascarenhas MP, Member for Swan
- Madeleine Brown, Senior Solicitor, Workplace Team, Circle Green
- Conrad Liveris, Economist and Non-profit Executive
