Shades of green
Description
He’s been called David Attenborough with dreads and the living Lorax for his environmental advocacy and activism, but growing up in suburban Palmerston North, Dean Baigent-Mercer had little experience with native bush.
Dean's talk will span native seabirds to the creation of DOC to end conservation battles, the destruction of native forests, the important role of giant ancient trees and the intergenerational fight to protect native forests from logging and burning, and how he became an activist who with others occupied Charleston Forest on the West Coast to end native forest logging in 1997.
Join us at Juno Gin to hear more about Dean’s journey from townie to environmental activist protecting Aotearoa New Zealand’s natural places.
Some light nibbles will be available to guests and drinks can be purchased at the bar.
