Event description

“Shaktya” features a mother with her two daughters, where they portray women characters from mythology, history and contemporary times. Women who have inspired, have shown exemplary courage and have taken the difficult path to stand by their convictions. The Goddess in the Indian ethos who is considered as the quintessential woman symbolising empowerment, has set the stage for the entire female principle to be inspired, where every woman looks for the Goddess within her. This work tells the stories of many such women who have manifested the presence of the Goddess within them by speaking the unspoken and by treading the uncharted path.

Rama Vaidyanathan took Bharatanatyam to a new era of conscious thinking. Her ability to use her Bharatanatyam compositions to observe the Universe set her apart in the realm of classical dance. She found her own meaning in Bharatanatyam and used the same to showcase her outlook on the mystical that permeates through each of us. Her bond with the spiritual, combined with a knack for instinctually gravitating towards the abstract, has made her one of the most formidable creators in Bharatanatyam.

Dakshina Vaidyanathan, daughter of Rama Vaidyanathan is a third-generation Bharatanatyam dancer, known for her talent and grace in the dance form. She is the granddaughter of the veteran dancer-guru-choreographer Saroja Vaidyanathan. Dakshina has been rigorously trained by both her mother and grandmother at Ganesa Natyalaya and now teaches there. She is recognized for her natural stage presence, timing, and understanding of the art form.
