Event description

Co-founded by The Matcha Initiative and The Transmutation Principle, AlterCOP Summits aim to keep corporate and the public informed of COP proceedings and outcomes, facilitate discourse and knowledge learning on corporate sustainability in a localised context, foster collaboration among various actors (professionals, academics, youth, NPOs, community groups, and policymakers) and inspire action.

As Australia prepares to potentially host COP31, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to open up climate dialogue to all and show that local actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change are already happening across different communities.

Running alongside the United Nations (UN) COP30 agenda, the four-day event will foster grassroots ownership of global climate goals while amplifying local and regional engagement across Australia.

Shaping the Future: Learning Climate Systems, Leading Systemic Change

Join us in Sydney for an evening of rich conversations about the climate reality and the many different paths we can choose to take action

From developing a clearer understanding of the system in which the climate crisis is unfolding to building successful partnerships and collaborations to act in a meaningful way, we will be joined throughout the evening by key speakers and experts.

To set the scene you will first learn about the systems in which the climate crisis is taking place and the relationships between the climate crisis and other crises through engaging with the climate Fresk, the internationally acclaimed, science-based workshop that turns complex climate science into a fun, interactive game .

Equipped with this systemic perspective you will then hear inspiring  and motivational stories from  Liz Courtney. What are the progress made in Australia and what are the positive tipping points we could aim to unlock in order to create a more sustainable future. A Q&A will offer you a chance to ask questions and better understand where Australia is at and the opportunities for contributing to further advancement of positive changes

Finally you will get to hear from change makers in Sydney in a panel discussion focussing on the critical role partnership plays in building climate resilience

Agenda

  • Welcome to Country - TBC

  • Climate Fresk cards game - Using 42 cards based on the latest IPCC reports, participants work in teams to map out the causes and consequences of climate change.
