Shared Ground Series - Irishtown - Exploring a mobile dairy

Join the Gunningham family, as they share their experience in developing Tasmania's first mobile milking bail as part of their Shakespeare Hills Creamery business in Irishtown, NW Tas.

You will visit the farm, and get the opportunity to view their mobile milking bail in action, surrounded by cows eagerly waiting for their turn for milking.

A mobile milking bail is a wonderful, no-stress environment. The cows are so chill, so relaxed. It really is quite something. 

Unlike a conventional dairy farm where the cows go to the dairy to be milked, on Shakespeare Hills farm the dairy goes with the cows… their custom-built milking bail stays with the cows at all times, and it moves around the farm with the cows. The whole setup simply gets hooked up to a tractor and pulled to the next paddock on a daily basis.
