Sharing Experiences Finding Wheelchair Accessible Housing (ONLINE)
Event description
Are you a wheelchair user who has searched for accessible housing within the past three years? Do you live in Metro Vancouver? Join us to share your experiences! Experiences will be compiled into a guide to help other wheelchair users find housing.
On Tuesday, June 24th from 6:00-7:30pm Vancouver time, join other wheelchair users and their caregivers via Zoom to share your experiences and tips for finding wheelchair-accessible housing in Metro Vancouver. Attendees will receive $15; we encourage you to use this to order dinner and eat while we chat. Maximum attendance is 10 people.
We will briefly introduce ourselves, respond to prompts about housing challenges and successes, and brainstorm ideas. Active participation is expected. If you don't enjoy engaging on Zoom, you can provide written contributions here: https://forms.gle/SS5n61NSkrNhv5nC7. All insight is valued :)
The event is hosted by Katharine Baldwin, a wheelchair user who recently had to find accessible housing in Vancouver. The housing search was hard, and she decided to write a 15-page guide to help others find wheelchair-accessible housing. The purpose of this event is to add others' experiences to the guide and build community among wheelchair users in Metro Vancouver.
This event is NOT to provide feedback to any housing organization. Katharine is NOT affiliated with any housing organizations or governments. This event is meant for wheelchair users to generate ideas that can be shared with other wheelchair users.
To make this event fun and social, attendees are encouraged to order/eat dinner during the meeting. Each attendee will receive a $15 Interac e-transfer after the meeting to reimburse their meal expenses. Thank you to Neighborhood Small Grants for supporting this project!
Before the event, you will receive an email with a Zoom link and a draft of Katharine's housing guide. If you can, please give yourself 20 minutes to look at the guide before the event (and order your food)!
