    Event description

Renew's Toowoomba Members' Branch will be hosting tours of two Toowoomba region sustainable houses on Sustainable House Day, 19 March.  Visitors will have a chance to talk to the homeowners about their experience of having a sustainable house built and what it is like to live in a thermally comfortable energy efficient home.

    Megs Passive House:

We are an older couple and this is our first build. Meegan is still working full time and I am semi-retired. We have a strong interest in minimising our impact on the environment and living sustainably (as much as is within our means) - we grow our own vegetables, we ride electric bicycles instead of driving the car whenever possible, we try to recycle as much as we can. We have built a passive house as it is better for our health, provides a more comfortable environment and minimises energy use. The house is also built for “ageing in place” as we wanted this building to see us through to our geriatric years. We will continue to evolve the sustainability of this house with the addition of vegetable and herb wicking beds, composting, worm farm, addition of batteries for household energy use and electric car charging.
