Discover the art of Shibari, a Japanese practice of rope connection that blends beauty, presence, and trust.

In this 2.5-hour beginner workshop, we’ll explore the foundations of Shibari through connection, safety, and creativity.

Learn how rope can become a language of awareness, care, and communication, whether your interest is aesthetic, therapeutic, sensual, or playful and connective.

This workshop is designed for you to learn the basic ties and provide understanding of shibari potential.

What You’ll Learn

  • The evolution of Shibari into its modern forms from artistic to devotional and relational practice

  • Essential safety and consent practices to create trust and care

  • How to facilitate heartfelt connection in your rope practice

  • Foundational techniques including the single column tie

  • Guidance in crafting a simple connection web tie, integrating the Nodome knot

Who It’s For

This workshop is designed for beginners. No prior experience is required.

You may come solo or with a partner. All exercises can be practiced on yourself, with a partner, or through mindful observation.

What to Bring

  • Comfortable clothing you can move in

  • Ropes will be available for class use. If you prefer, you may bring 1–2 of your own (8 m jute)

  • Water bottle, notebook (optional)

What to Expect

A warm, supportive space that honours safety, consent, and non-sexual connection.

We’ll begin with shared agreements, explore rope fundamentals, and close with reflections.

Come with curiosity and openness as we learn, listen, and connect through the art of Shibari.

About the facilitators

Brett D.

Introduced to shibari 15 years ago, Brett’s approach has evolved into a somatic and relational art. His style weaves mindful presence, sensitivity, and embodied communication as a practice of connection and attunement. Brett brings confidence in the foundations and a grounded, heart-centered approach to rope.

Kat aka Spiky Petals

An emerging rigger passionate about building community, connect shibari enthusiasts, provide opportunity to learn and explore. Kat's style is - sensual tying with the strong focus on aesthetics. Apart from being her art, shibari for her is a tool of self exploration.
