Event description

"We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know" - Carl Rodgers

Led by counsellor David Merlo (M.C, BSocSc, PACFA & NDIS), please join this safe and comfortable forum to talk about and explore a topic very close to the heart - empathy. Empathy is more than just understanding—it's a powerful tool for connection, resilience, and change. In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore the true meaning of empathy through an LGBTQIA+ lens, uncovering what it is, what it isn’t, and how we can cultivate it in our daily lives.

Drawing on the latest evidence-based research and lived clinical experience, we’ll discuss the unique challenges our queer community faces when giving and receiving empathy. Through open discussion and practical tools, we’ll navigate these complexities with unconditional positive regard and a non-judgmental stance—toward others and, most importantly, ourselves.
