Event description
Shifting Centre are delighted to announce that our brand new theatre work 'The Circle' is set to premiere in June at Kia Mau Festival, right here in Te-Whanganui-a-Tara.
Therefore we are hosting a night with some of Pōneke's BEST local talent in hopes of raising some money to support our journey to Kia Mau Festival. There will be performances from artists across all mediums bringing you a night of dance, song, food and celebration.
We will also be selling suppers, baked goods and more (cash & eftpos available).
So bring your whanau, your energy and your wallets to support local emerging Maori/Pasifika artists in this journey of navigating through the arts industry of Aotearoa.

Shifting Centre - Shifting Centre is an indigenous artist collective based in Te-Whanganui-a-Tara, dedicated to fostering space for indigenous artists and their work. Through artistic creation and community engagement, we aim to enrich the local arts landscape while uncovering alternative pathways for indigenous artists in the region.
Te Whare Marama - The Trailblazing Kiki House of Marama (est. 2020), Wellington's first Ballroom House founded by Mothers Karamera & Romé Marama. A queer POC collective of performers and artists, competing and sharing artistry of Ballroom Culture whilst supporting and uplifting each other as a chosen family.
Open Jamz - Open Jamz is a collective of dancers/choreographers who create together and individually to allow an open space to jam with anyone from the community. They are driven to share their craft as well as, create a safe space for others to join and have fun.
Eddstar - A Whitireia graduate in Performing Arts, Eddstar continues to share and develop her craft and passion for the arts. Her career has allowed her to travel all over the world and share Pasifika culture with many diverse audiences. She also shares a deep passion with uplifting and mentoring our rangatahi, instilling the importance of cultivating and preserving our cultural practices and traditions.
Lila Crichton - Lila is an award-winning singer, songwriter and composer, with his most recent work "Master of None: Brown Fala" winning the "Momentous Music" award in Fringe Festival 2025. His experience within the arts is extensive, performing with artists/organisations such as NZ Symphony Orchestra, Deva Mahal and Aaradhna only to name a few. Lila continues to make a mark on the industry with his soulful yet powerful voice.
6IXHAND - 6IXHAND consists of four emerging Māori/Pasifika DJ's based in Te-Whanganui-a-Tara. KAYSEEYUH, ggrraayy, miamia and AverageJ each bring a unique sound ranging from Polynesian Island Jams, all the way to Brazillian Baile Funk, to Euro Techno sounds and MORE. Together they aim to curate a safe space for authentic expression - with an emphasis on our BIPOC communities, allowing us a space to freely indulge in music that is both resonant and exhilarating.
