Event description

A hands-on workshop series for ag extension professionals, consultants and coaches ready to support farmers through regenerative transition.

Shifting Gears is a practical, peer-based workshop series designed for those who support farmers with decision making in cropping systems—whether you're an ag extension officer, agronomist, consultant, educator or coach.

Over four dynamic sessions, you’ll build confidence, sharpen your toolkit, and explore what it takes to engage farmers in meaningful, lasting change. With input from David Hardwick from Soil Land Food and facilitation from the Soils for Life team, you’ll explore proven strategies for social learning and practice change, learn from your peer's experiences, and walk away with a workshop or program designed by you, for your community.

Session dates:

  • Monday 5th May 2-4pm
  • Monday 12th May, 2-4pm
  • Monday 19th May, 2-4pm
  • Monday 26th May, 2-4pm

Cost: $45 per person, includes all four sessions and access to a peer network of like-minded professionals.

What to expect

This is just not another webinar series. It's an opportunity learn from your peers and skill up in ag extension and capacity building—so you can support farmers, particularly those in grain growing regions, to reach their goals and make change and decisions with confidence.

Session 1 – The fundamentals

What does effective extension actually look like? We’ll explore the theory of how people learn and change, and how to meet them where they are. You’ll reflect on how to best support the landholders you work with—and on your own role in helping them build capability, not just know-how.

Session 2 – Strategies and tactics

Get practical with the Four Stage Capacity Building Model, learn how to support decision making in low risk environments, and explore hands on approaches to build confidence in soil and plant health literacy. Experience tools and activities that help landholders think critically and act confidently.

Session 3 – Peer-to-peer and social learning

Dive into the dynamics of group-based learning. We’ll explore how to create a strong ‘container’ for your groups—where participation and curiosity can thrive. Learn how to facilitate a meaningful peer exchange that supports real change.

Session 4 – Design your own workshop or program

You’ll pull everything together to sketch out your own short workshop, longer-term program or coaching model—tailored to your region and audience. Get feedback from peers and troubleshoot with the group. Walk away with something tangible, relevant and ready to trial.
