Shoot a Real Sony Campaign with Clyde Vaughan
Description
Brief to wrap on a live Sony shoot. Eight spots.
Thu 29 Oct · Pre-production night · 6:30–8:30pm · Georges Chatswood
Mon 2 Nov · Shoot day · 5am–5pm · Blue Mountains
Photo and video · Professional talent · Supported by Sony
This isn’t a classroom. Sony and Georges Cameras are producing a new outdoor lifestyle campaign for November, and you’re on the crew. Clyde Vaughan [one-line credential] leads the shoot with Sony’s Nick Fraser on set. You’ll shoot stills and video alongside them from first light to wrap, and come away with portfolio images of professional talent in one of Australia’s best landscapes.
The pre-production night (Thu 29 Oct)
Campaigns are won before anyone picks up a camera. Watch the brief become a moodboard, shot list and call sheet, see how talent, locations and timings get locked in, and learn how the kit is chosen when one shoot has to deliver both stills and video. You’ll leave knowing exactly what we’re shooting, where and why, with the campaign’s shot list and call sheet to use as a template for your own shoots.
The shoot (Mon 2 Nov)
A full day across the Blue Mountains, chasing the light from sunrise to late afternoon.
5:00am: call time at Mt Hay for sunrise (5:58am)
Midday: urban scenes in Leura
Afternoon: Centennial Glen, Blackheath
If time allows: Wentworth Falls and Lincoln Rock
5:00pm: wrap
The talent will be hiking, trail running, climbing, camping and mountain biking. The campaign story is outdoor photographers in their element: directing with camera in hand, dumping cards from the back of the car, braving the weather and taking in the view from the lookouts.
What you’ll learn
Turning a brand brief into a moodboard, shot list and call sheet
Shooting stills and video on the same day without one slowing the other down
Building the schedule around the light, from blue hour to harsh midday sun
Directing talent outdoors so the action looks real, not posed
Shooting product-in-use images a retailer can actually run: clean backgrounds and room for text
Field workflow: hybrid settings, card management and backing up on location
What’s included
A pre-production night and a full shoot day
Professional talent cast for an outdoor lifestyle campaign
Shooting alongside Clyde Vaughan and Sony’s Nick Fraser
Sony cameras and lenses on set to try
Portfolio images of professional talent on location
A crew of 8, so you’re shooting, not watching
Who it’s for
Photographers and filmmakers who want to work commercially, and hybrid shooters who want to see how a real campaign gets stills and video from one shoot. You should be confident with your camera in manual, but you don’t need to be a working pro.
One ticket covers both days. The shoot builds on the pre-production night, so there are no single-day tickets.
Before you book
The shoot is on a Monday, so you’ll need the day off.
It’s physically demanding. A high level of fitness is required: as a guide, you should be able to comfortably hike 12 km over rough ground. You’ll reach lookouts in the dark, move between locations all day and work in whatever weather turns up.
Attendees must be 18+.
You’ll need your own transport to and around the Blue Mountains. We’ll help connect anyone who wants to carpool.
What to bring
Your camera, lenses, charged batteries and spare cards. Food and water for the day, a headtorch for the 5am start, sturdy hiking shoes with good grip, warm layers and a rain jacket.
Image use
The talent are released for Georges Cameras and Sony advertising. You’re welcome to use your own images in your personal portfolio, but not commercially. We’ll be filming behind the scenes on the day, and you may appear in it.
