Event description

Join us under the Monarto stars as we gather around an open fire and enjoy live music from some incredible South Australian artists.

Shoots n’ Roots is a midwinter music festival combining arts, environmental restoration and community building on the magnificent conservation area of Frahns Farm, Monarto. Local and emerging live music acts are featured whilst open-air bonfires and fairy-light lit trees keep revellers warm and comfortable.

On the middle weekend of our 2022 Frahns Farm Planting Festival will be accompanied by music, a campfire and camping for our volunteers.

After a day of planting, our heart-warmed spirits will drift into the evening as we enjoy the inspired sounds of local musical storytellers.

It will be cold, so please come prepared to rug-up!

No food or drink facilities will be available onsite. Please BYO dinner and breakfast if camping overnight. Small fuel stoves may be used to heat food and drinks, but no personal fires will be permitted.

We acknowledge that this event will take place on the traditional lands of the Ngarrindjeri people and respect their elders past, present and emerging. We appreciate the Ngarrindjeri people's innate, deep and ongoing spiritual connection with the land and waters of this region and aspire to work alongside the them in taking care of country and community.

ARTIST BIOS

SONZ OF SERPENT

When the world wanted good hip-hop, they screamed S.O.S.

What is the serpent? The serpent we speak of is the Rainbow Serpent. Known to many Aboriginal groups far and wide as a water spirit know for bringing rain, healing, fertility and new life.

The rainbow can be interpreted as the colours spectrum as it passes through water. And as for the new life. We all evolved and came from water. Water is known for being shapeless, formless, strong and adaptive. Without water there is no life.

Sonz of Serpent

A glass of water to the minds that thirst for knowledge and guidance. We wish to speak to those absent of leadership and purpose.

Acting as a current moving some in the right direction through well thought-out rhymes, witty metaphors, cool flows, range of content and energy.

Native Emcee, Yowie and Native Son 91. A Crew of Verbal pyromaniacs that reveal their celestial form through live performances they call the ritual.

THE FINNS

The Finns are an energetic Celtic Folk music group formed in 2016 on Kaurna Land (Adelaide) on the 100th annivessary of the Easter Rising, and embody a shared and personal love of of Irish and Scottish culture, a history of struggle, rebellion, and social justice, and a desire to bring this culture to life with merriment and vigour. All of this best enjoyed with as many friends as you can find and something to drink in your hands.

THE HARTLEY COLLECTIVE

Like a shelf of oddities and curiosities, The Hartley Collective is an eclectic group of inspired musicians.

We draw inspiration from the world around us, taking influence from an array of genres and blending funk, bluegrass, rock and pop into our own original sound.

Bringing our collection of dancing, colour, good vibes and a cowboy hat, we invite you to join us on our journey as we transform our experiences into melodies that will float around your mind for days.

The Hartley Collective promises to have you toe tapping and hip swaying to the smooth tunes we have to offer.

Becca Gross from Human.Kind Yoga Studio

On Sunday morning (June 19th) we’re lucky to have Becca Gross from Human.Kind leading a heart- and body-warming yoga session before planting begins. Becca is a facilitator and studio manager at Human.Kind studios. She has completed over 300 hours of teacher training and is an avid learner who enjoys building knowledge to compliment her love of asana and embodied living. Sharing this love and passion for movement and community is a practice that, for her, sparks immense joy.
