Side by Side - An information & support evening for families of trans & gender diverse young people
Description
Has a young person in your life expressed wanting to explore more about their gender?
Want to support them, but not sure how?
Have questions, but not sure who to ask?
headspace Adelaide has teamed up with both TransMascSA and TransFemmeSA, two of the leading volunteer / lived-experience support groups for trans and gender diverse community members in Adelaide, to answer your questions!
We want to offer a space where attendees can:
Access information about gender diversity, gender dysphoria and gender affirming care from a lived-experience perspective;
Myth bust misinformation by providing accurate, current, lived experience focussed and evidence-based information;
Learn how to support gender diverse adolescents and young people and where they can access ongoing support in the community;
Meet other families, carers and allies of trans and gender diverse young people.
Delivered via an informal Q&A format, attendee questions will be answered by TransMascSA and TransFemmeSA facilitators, many of whom also work in the trans health and wellbeing space.
Mental health clinicians and lived-experience workers from headspace Adelaide will also be present to discuss their various mental health support and referral pathways for trans and gender diverse young people 12 - 25 years old. Plenty of resources will also be available.
In order to ensure the emotional safety of facilitators and attendees, we ask that all questions are submitted prior to the Q&A session via the registration process, via email (info@headspaceadelaide.org.au) or via a question box available at the start of the event. Facilitators are also happy to chat after the panel to respond to any individual questions.
Can’t attend in-person? No worries! This event will also be live-streamed via Microsoft Teams (link to be sent closer to the event). Questions can be submitted during registration or using the anonymous question function on the night.
Program:
6:30pm - Doors open, tea and coffee, resources available and last chance to submit questions
7pm - Introductions, information and Q&A
8pm - End of Q&A, facilitators available for individual questions
8:30pm – Close
If you are interested in attending either in-person or on-line, please click on the 'Register' button, choose which attendance option you prefer, and then add your details. Please create a registration for each person attending.
