Silent Movie Challenge Professional Development for Teachers
Event description
Step Back into the Golden Age of Silent Movies!
Get ready to tie up your heroine and place her on the railroad tracks, we’re rolling the clock back over 100 years to the era of Silent Movies!
Before the ‘talkies’ arrived, cinema relied on exaggerated gestures, expressive faces, and perfectly timed piano flourishes. In this professional learning workshop, you’ll rediscover the magic of silent film-making — and take away creative strategies for the classroom.
Working in small groups, you will:
Collaborate on a theme and develop a short silent film script.
Direct and produce your film using volunteer actors (big expressions and over-acting highly encouraged!).
Design authentic dialogue cards to support storytelling and audience engagement.
To complete the experience, you’ll choose from a range of mood-setting audio tracks — from jaunty piano to dramatic theatre organ — plus sound effects that bring your film to life.
Professional Learning Benefits:
Explore the power of non-verbal communication and visual storytelling.
Strengthen teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving in a practical setting.
Discover ideas easily adaptable to student projects and classroom practice.
The day runs from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.
The workshop is free, with morning tea and lunch provided.
With only 12 places available, make sure you book quickly!
Certificate of attendance will be emailed to each participant.
Note: Attendees will need a USB to store their film.
