SILK & SCREENDANCE

Asian voices. Global movement.

In-Cinema + Online Screening

Silk & Screendance brings together eight works by filmmakers connected to China, Hong Kong and Singapore, spanning dance film, documentary and experimental screendance. Rather than being defined by a single cultural theme, the programme showcases a range of contemporary creative voices — exploring identity, memory, relationships, transformation and the ways movement can carry deeply personal stories.

Akwaaba — Singapore / Ghana
A Singaporean dancer travels to Ghana to immerse herself in the roots of Afro Dance. Guided by African mentors, her journey becomes an exploration of history, community and the power of dance to build connections across national boundaries.

The Story of a Mushroom — China
A surreal experimental dance film exploring contemporary women’s identity, self-alienation and the search for authentic selfhood through poetic imagery, allegory and the moving body.

The Broken Cycle — Hong Kong
An intimate dance film capturing a relationship caught in an endless rhythm of stagnation — until the cycle begins to break.

FEIBO AMIDST FLOWERS, The Making of “BLOOMING LIFE” — China
Following choreographer Fei Bo through the creation of BLOOMING LIFE, this documentary explores how a deeply personal story of Alzheimer’s disease, fading memory, caregiving and love is transformed into dance.

Peeling Threads — China
A reflection on life as a tapestry of individual experiences, embracing uncertainty, connection and the passage of time while finding acceptance in the shared experience of carrying on.

THE DREAMING — Hong Kong
Choreographed using Butoh-fu and elements of folk dance, THE DREAMING moves between light and darkness, subconscious and physical experience, on a journey into the hidden parts of ourselves that light alone cannot reveal.

Poem — China
Through the life of a 70-year-old Korean Chinese woman, movement and light trace a lifetime shaped by constraint, endurance and perseverance, ultimately finding strength and self-awakening.

A Complete Mess
A final work completes this eight-film programme, bringing another distinctive voice to a collection celebrating the breadth and possibility of contemporary Asian screendance.
