SILO SOUNDS presents: “An afternoon of ROMANCE” with the CAPITAL PIANO TRIO

Kirsten Williams violin, Scott Davie piano, Rachel Johnston cello

Romance away on a Sunday spring afternoon in the hilltops with beautiful music, sumptuous high tea and delightful company. Three international Australian artists, now based in Canberra, journey to Harden Murrumburrah to perform two loved masterworks by Clara Schumann and Beethoven.

    Kirsten Williams, violin

Australia’s leading violinist, Kirsten Williams has performed widely as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician, in concert and on ABC radio. In 2019, she was appointed Concertmaster of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra (CSO). Kirsten studied with Alice Waten at the Sydney Conservatorium and with Igor Ozim in Switzerland. She then joined the Royal Opera House Orchestra at Covent Garden and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, touring and recording widely. On returning to Australia, Kirsten was appointed Associate Leader of the Australian Chamber Orchestra. She has also appeared as guest Concertmaster of the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Sydney Philharmonia and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. From 2000 to 2019, Kirsten was Associate Concertmaster with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, performing numerous solos with the orchestra, chamber music and working closely with the students in Sinfonia, SSO’s educational orchestra.

    Rachel Johnston, cello

A renowned performer and teaching artist, Rachel Johnston is a classical and versatile alternative cellist. Rachel became well known to Australian audiences performing as cellist in the Australian String Quartet from 2006-2013. During this time, she performed with leading international artists including Pieter Wispelwej, Alina Abragimova, Anne Sophie von Otter, the Juilliard Quartet, Jerusalem Quartet, and many more, as well as Australian luminaries such as Piers Lane, Liwei, Brett Dean, Slava Grigoryan, Sara Macliver, Konstantin Shamray, Fiona Campbell, Marshall Maguire and Andrew Goodwin. With postgraduate degrees from the Juilliard School in New York, London University and Canterbury University, NZ, Rachel was one of the last students to study with the legendary Alban Berg Quartet in Cologne as part of the international award winning Tankstream Quartet.

    Scott Davie, piano

Scott Davie is known to audiences as a soloist and chamber musician. He has given concerts throughout Australia, Europe, across the United States of America, Mexico, and China. His performances and recordings have been broadcast on both radio and television. Scott is known for various cross-disciplinary collaborations, such as with Graeme Murphy and Sydney Dance Company in Grand, and in a 2018 revival of the work with The Australian Ballet. In 2012, he gave the Australian premiere of the original version of Rachmaninoff’s Fourth Piano Concerto with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, to capacity audiences at the Sydney Opera House, under conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy. Among his published recordings, two solo CDs, Lilacs and Pictures from an Exhibition, are available through ABC Classic.
