Silver Rainbow LGBTI+ Ageing + Aged Care Training May 2025 at Inner West Pride Centre, Sydney
Event description
Silver Rainbow LGBTI+ Ageing & Aged Care Training introduces participants to the principles of LGBTI+ inclusive practice in Aged Care. The training addresses the Aged Care Quality Standards and their relationship to LGBTI+ cultural safety in aged care.
This training uses interactive activities, case studies and research-based evidence to build participants' skills in inclusive ageing and aged care practice. The aim of Silver Rainbow training is to build the capacity of aged care services to adopt practices that create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all LGBTI+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex) older people.
In this training, participants will:
- Develop understanding of the lived experience of LGBTI older people, including impacts of discrimination and negative experiences.
- Understand concepts of gender, sexual orientation, bodily diversity and relationships.
- Use language and practice that is inclusive of LGBTI communities.
- Increase knowledge of sector requirements for providing inclusive care.
- Identify strategies for inclusive practice for LGBTI older people in your community or residential aged care service.
Any worker providing support or care to older people accessing aged care funded services. Settings may include residential aged care, independent living support, community care, home care, and respite.
Whilst the training is predominantly for aged care workers in direct care roles, the training may be adapted for workers in other roles such as allied health, administration, support staff and volunteers (e.g., Community Visitor Scheme).
Tea, coffee and morning tea will be provided. We will have a 30 minute lunch break as well as tea breaks. Participants will receive an email with details about how to prepare for the session and how to access the building. Looking forward to seeing you!
