Sing on the Solstice

Join us for Sing on the Solstice, our much-loved annual gathering of voices to mark the winter solstice. Following our previous sold-out events, Emily Marshall, Elena Harris and Holly Taylor-Zuntz are reconvening for another joyful afternoon of harmony singing on the shortest day of the year.

This year, for the first time, we’re moving to a new home: the beautiful 200-year-old Tythe barn at Lopemead Farm in Thame, home of Feral Voices Community Choir. Surrounded by the winter countryside, we’ll gather together to sing songs that honour the turning of the year, the longest night, the returning light, the stillness of winter and the warmth and connection we can create by singing together.

Emily, Elena and Holly are three local choir leaders with different musical flavours, joining forces to share songs they love and create a rich and varied afternoon of harmony singing.

All songs are taught by ear in the Natural Voice tradition, so there’s no need to read music or have any previous singing experience. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or completely new to group singing, everyone is welcome.

Come and spend the winter solstice with us, three hours of voices, harmony and connection as we sing our way through the darkest day and towards the returning light. 🌙🔥🎶

Leaders:

Emily Marshall is an Oxford-based singing leader, songwriter and Natural Voice practitioner who leads a range of community choirs and singing groups, including Feisty Choir, Eynsham Community Choir and Singing Assembly. Her work spans community singing, workshops and performance, and she brings an eclectic range of music to her groups, including her own compositions. With clear teaching, humour and a love of rich a cappella harmony, Emily creates welcoming spaces where people can build confidence, connect with others and experience the joy of singing together. She believes harmony singing is a communal, life-affirming art form and invites people to “celebrate the voice you are born with.”

Holly Taylor-Zuntz is a singing leader, voice practitioner and artist who helps create uplifting, inclusive spaces for people to connect through song. Through choirs, workshops and retreats across the UK, Holly shares songs from a range of traditions, alongside gentle, embodied voice practices that support people to relax, open their voices and enjoy the experience of singing in harmony. While she is known for her specialism in Georgian polyphonic singing, rooted in years of study in Georgia, at this workshop she'll be offering feel-good harmony songs that are easy to learn and sing together.

Elena Harris is a singing leader, and nature connection facilitator, who brings together voice, community and the natural world. She leads Feral Voices Community Choir, a nature-based LGBTQ+ inclusive community choir where songs are taught by ear in simple harmony, creating relaxed and inclusive spaces for people of all abilities to sing together. Through her work with choirs, families and outdoor learning programmes, Elena invites people to reconnect with their voices, each other and the natural world through song.
