Event description

This is a FREE community event

The Singleton community has a proud history of producing the electricity to power our state. But we know the coal power stations are closing. The National Electricity Market is now powered by 40% renewable energy. Our electricity system operator has a plan to repower Australia with renewable energy and storage, and we are well down this path.

The federal Coalition has proposed building a nuclear reactor at the old Liddell power station. Their plan is slow, expensive and won’t provide jobs for the Lithgow community until decades in the future. There are a range of risks like the storage and disposal of radioactive waste and threats to water that cannot be ignored.

This public meeting will feature experts from the local community and around Australia who will detail the risks and impracticalities of a nuclear reactor at Liddell.

There will be an open question and answer session.

Speakers:

Dr Jim Green, Nuclear Consulting Group

Kate Hook, local renewable energy expert

Ian Gaillard, Coordinator for Gasfield Free Northern Rivers

Justin Page, Hunter Jobs Alliance

Tim Buckley, Climate Energy Finance
