Media and Communication Training Workshop – Perth
Event description
Media and communication training workshop
Our media and communication training workshop will help you find the story in your research and learn how to achieve media coverage that is true to your science AND engages your audience.
- Meet local journalists and learn how to ensure your research is reported accurately.
- Practice being interviewed on tape on and in front of camera by real journalists.
- Find out how the media works and how you can make it work for you.
Gain confidence in talking about your research so that it has impact with media, government, industry and other stakeholders.
Conveying the complexity of your research, your life’s work, into a 30-second grab for the media or one-minute elevator pitch to funders or even a Vice Chancellor can be hard. The solution is to shape the essence of your science into a story.
This is a full day hands-on workshop where you will learn how to effectively communicate about your work to the public, stakeholders, government, industry and the media.
You will meet and talk with journalists from television, print and radio; and you’ll get the chance to do some practice interviews.
The course covers: television (with practice interviews); radio (with practice interviews); handling tricky questions and staying out of trouble; print and online media; developing your communication plan; social media and becoming an ‘expert’.
The course will be run by Sarah Brooker: 22 years’ experience in translating science to English specialising in stakeholder engagement, media training, mentoring and events. Read more.
