Honouring the contributions of Sir Roland Wilson and Dr Pat Turner AO, we bring together The Australian National University (ANU), Charles Darwin University (ANU) and the Australian Public Service (APS) to build research-informed public policy capability and leadership through postgraduate scholarships, professional development and networking opportunities.
We provide scholarships that invest in research and development opportunities for public servants. Our scholars study in a range of fields, such as public administration, economic and social policy, data and cyber security, law, and environment and climate management. They bring back to their agencies important connections with academia as well as expertise in research, ready for successful leadership in the public sector.
The Foundation offers two scholarship programs:
The Sir Roland Wilson Scholarship is a three-year, full-pay scholarship for PhD research at The Australian National University for high-performing Executive Level 1 (EL1) and EL2 (or equivalent) Australian Public Service and eligible Commonwealth public sector employees*.
The Pat Turner Scholarship is a one-to-three year, full-pay scholarship for any level of postgraduate study at The Australian National University or Charles Darwin University for high-performing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australian Public Service 4 (APS 4) to Senior Executive Service Band 1 (SES Band 1) (or equivalent) Australian Public Service and eligible Commonwealth public sector employees*.
*Eligibility has been expanded to non-corporate Commonwealth Entities and Corporate Commonwealth Entities, which fall within section 57 of the Regulations. The expanded eligibility criteria excludes Commonwealth companies and entities prescribed as Government Business Enterprises under the PGPA Rule and entities that are exempt or partially exempt from government policy orders (section 22 PGPA Act). These scholarships develop research-informed public policy capability and leadership skills, and support scholars to study topics of national interest and enduring relevance to the APS and Commonwealth public sector at either ANU or CDU.
