Event description

The Role of A Continuous Improvement Leader Is Much More than a Couple of Lines in a Position Description!

The role of a continuous improvement leader can be quite a challenging within an organisation. It can be a role of opposites. By default, you must be a leader, but often without any, or limited positional power. Often you are looked to as an expert who will solve everyone’s problems, but your actual role is to get them to solve their own problems. And many will experience the double frustration of participating in strategic planning discussions (which you organised) only to have – ahem, other leaders – insist that the strategy must include severe cuts to the workforce. And of course the classic being made responsible for achieving “results” without any authority to make changes!

Perhaps now would be a good time to remind you of how rewarding the role of CI leader can be? How about the people who used to grumble about work that now smile and encourage others in 5S? Or the CAVE dweller who converted to the best ally for lean thinking? Remember the success of that project last year, the stretch target you didn’t know you could meet?

So in this event, we are going to talk about the Role of the Continuous Improvement Leader in an organisation.

Some of the topics to be discussed on the day may include:

  • Support the role requires
  • How many C.I. people is enough?
  • Dedicated vs embedded C.I. leaders
  • What training a C.I. Leader requires and how to get this training ?
  • Coordination and execution of improvement activities
  • Budgeting for continuous improvement work
  • Communication with team and across shifts
  • Role in problem solving
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Discipline and dealing with difficult people
  • Motivating the team
  • …And lots more!
