Six Season Walks 2025 - Djeran
Event description
On this community walk, learn about the culture and language of the Noongar people. We will be in the season of Djeran. Known as the “Season of Adulthood” this is a time of transition when we experience cooler nights with dew and the beginning of south westerly winds. The six seasons played an integral role in the yearly cycle of travel and resource collection for Noongar people and now we can all better appreciate their connection to Country.
The City of Melville is partnering with Perth NRM to host the Djeran walk. Kerry-Ann Winmar, a Whadjuk Yorga from the Perth region will Welcome us to Country before leading a walk incorporating information and moments for sharing as we explore the culturally significant bushland of Piney Lakes Reserve (Bidi Katitijiny, Pathway of Knowledge).
The walk will begin at the City of Melville EcoHub and take approximately 75 mins, including stops along the way. Walkers will need to bring along a water bottle, a hat and wear suitable shoes for walking. Please note that these events are fluid, and each walk is slightly different - depending on the weather, the flora and fauna that we may see and the questions that are asked. Please join us for a cuppa and a yarn afterwards.
