SJ Bunting Library Sew-In Day
Event description
Event description
Welcome to the SJ Bunting Library, a community initiative in which sewing enthusiasts of all skill levels come together, have a cuppa, and create bunting from repurposed materials/fabric! This bunting can then be borrowed, for FREE, by residents for events such as birthday parties, Christmas, Halloween, school faction carnivals etc, therefore minimising the use of single-use disposable decorations such a balloon and streamers.
At the first sew-in day, residents expressed a preference for using their own machines at these workshops. To accommodate this while also adhering to Shire policy, we are hiring an electrician to 'tag and test' residents' machines at this workshop only (April). What this means is that if you get your machine tagged and tested by the electrician at this event, you can bring it along to future sew-in days. If you miss the April testing day, another tag and testing session will be scheduled later in the year.
Why are we starting a bunting library?
• Repurpose textiles that would otherwise end up in landfill.
• Reduce waste from single-use plastic and paper decorations.
• Cost effective (FREE)
• Support local creativity.
• Strengthen the Shire’s local identity.
Can't make it to this Sew-In Day? No matter, we meet every month!
If you want to be kept up to date with all things SJ Bunting Library such as when the next Sew-In Day is, how and when you can start borrowing, please email Hayley.Calway@sjshire.wa.gov.au to be put on the Bunting Library mailing list.
