Skat Party @ AMOCA
Description
End Oktoberfest strong this year and come learn to play Skat, the national card game of Germany! Skat is a beloved three player trick-taking card game, widely played across German speaking regions. At AMOCA, you’ll enjoy a brewski and friendly competition, and take a guided peek into the just-opened Villeroy & Boch Exhibition.
Through ceramic works produced at the Villeroy & Boch factory in Mettlach, A Change in Our Nature traces the evolving conceptualization of nature amid industrialization.
The Villeroy & Boch company was founded in 1836 through a merger between two competing ceramics factories owned by Nicolas Villeroy (1759-1843) and Jean François Boch (1782-1858). The company went on to pioneer the combination of art and industry with a staff of skilled artisans whose innovative works provide a glimpse into life in industrial-era Germany and its changing relationship with the natural landscape.
AMOCA invites you to join us for game play in the gallery. Hayden Walker, Project Registrar & Curatorial Assistant, Robert & Colette Wilson VBM Collection, will welcome guests and offer a brief introduction to Mettlach ceramic production at 3:00pm before game play begins.
Your Skat Party ticket includes museum admission. AMOCA is open 11am-4pm on Saturdays; you might want to arrive a little early if you’d like to explore other current exhibitions.
Game play materials and light refreshments will be provided. No experience is required; this is an opportunity to hang out with friends and learn a new card game.
Light refreshments will be provided.
