Channel your inner artist and get inspired by wildlife and nature in HRPK.
New this season, we’re offering a new series of workshops that connect art and creativity to our natural environment
with Sketching Nature. This series takes place throughout Hudson River Park where you’ll observe gorgeous
landscapes, fascinating local wildlife and unique Park features to spark creativity. During these programs, you’ll
learn more about the local Park environment from one of our River Project team, followed by a session led by local artist, Donna Miskend, where you’ll learn helpful tips and techniques during a guided sketching session.
Locations (please note that each event is at a different location in Hudson River Park)
July 11th: Pier 26, meets on the south side of City Vineyard
July 18th: Habitat Garden, meets at the Pier 66 Boathouse
July 25th: Pier 97, meets at the
Western edge of Pier 97, near the lounge chairs
About Sketching Nature
- Learn how to sketch from an artist in a relaxing Park environment
- Take home a unique piece of art created by you
- All necessary art supplies provided with your registration
- Participants who sign up for all three events may keep their sketchbook
About the Artist
Donna Miskend is a multimedia artist, writer, and educator. Her current body of work focuses on botanical/natural
science illustration. She is passionate about nature and supports environmental engagement efforts through her
projects, programs and collaborations.
She is the recipient of teaching and artist grants, and her participation in recent exhibits and programs such as Embankment on my Mind, highlighting species found on an abandoned railway tract of land in support of preserving it, Eye on Nature: Artists Explore the World of Plants and Animals, and Urban Nature in Fall/Winter Seasons reflect her ongoing commitment to environmental and conservation issues.Her professional memberships include the American Society of Botanical Artists and New York Mycological Society.
