Skill Building Workshop: Bootlegging w/Nathan Stanfield
Event description
Skill Building Workshop: Bootlegging Architectural Pottery w/Nathan Stanfield
Sunday, March 2, 2025. 10 AM - 4 PM
Participants will be working with Cone 10 clays (Rod’s Bod, Soldate 60, and LBW-70) to recreate their favorite piece from our current exhibition, Architectural Pottery.
The pieces we are going to make together will be at a much smaller scale than the works in the museum, but they will still employ a lot of the same techniques. We will use the techniques of slab-building, wheel-throwing, and attaching to achieve 12” tall versions of a piece from the exhibition Architectural Pottery. Each participant will make x1 12” piece.
The day will begin with a self-guided tour of Architectural Pottery where we will determine which pieces we want to set out to bootleg. Once we’ve done some sketching, and measuring, we will return to the studio to get started on our pieces.
Once we’ve gotten our pieces started we will take a lunch break and allow them to firm up a bit so that when we’re back they are ready to be joined/altered/finished up. These pieces will be bisque fired by AMOCA and you will be contacted when they are ready for pickup.
If you are choosing to wheel throw this piece you must be confident throwing at least 3 pounds of clay.
If you are slab building this piece you must have experience slab building.
