Skills Seminar: Creative Action Design
Description
Campaigns that have impact are made up of a series of actions that capture attention, tell a compelling story, and build unstoppable momentum.
From demonstrators marching backwards to get around anti-protest laws in 1909, to Extinction Rebellion building a four-metre high burning koala puppet in 2021, Australians have long used creativity and art in the pursuit of social change.
Creative activism makes the most of one of the few resources social movements have in abundance: the ability to come up with imaginative means to challenge, resist and solve social problems.
Done well, it can make advocacy more powerful, engaging and enjoyable.
But creativity alone isn’t enough. Effective campaign tactics are strategic. They seize moments of political opportunity, bring more people into the campaign, tell a bigger story of change and put meaningful pressure on those with the powerholders to act.
In this Skills Seminar, we'll explore how both creativity and strategy come together to turn people power into impact. You will leave the session with fresh perspectives, bright ideas and practical tools to design actions that engage people, build momentum and help win social change.
