This course is certified training through Alliance Boat Training WA.

You must be minimum of 14 years of age.

The theroy component of the course will commence Saturday 8th February at 8:30am at Hopetoun Community Centre, Shire Meeting Rooms.

The practical componet of the course will be held at the Hopetoun Boat Ramp (weather dependent) Saturday afternoon (8th Feb) and Sunday morning (9th Feb).

PLEASE NOTE - If the weather conditions are severe from the west then the day needs to be rescheduled or cancelled due to boat ramp safety.

Read the DOT workbook and learn the rules prior to attending - https://www.transport.wa.gov.au/imarine/rst-workbook-and-quizzes.asp

1. Paperwork - You must bring in Proof of Identity documents as per page 10 of the DOT workbook, if your POI isn’t a valid Australian Drivers Licence or Learners permit, then you are also required to provide an Eyesight Declaration as per page 9 of the DOT workbook. Under 18’s must also provide an RST letter of consent which can be copied from page 121 of the DOT workbook.

2. Theory Revision - This usually takes a couple of hours and is basically running through the Department of Transport (DOT) Workbook Theory chapters to help you understand and remember what you need to know to pass the DOT theory test.

3. Theory Test - As stated on page 8 of the DOT workbook, this “Closed Book” multiple choice test usually takes around 30 to 40 mins (max of 60 minutes permitted).

4. Practical Test - It is not possible to have everyone doing the test at once, so each attendee will be given a time to meet at the boat launch to practice their skills, get used to and learn the training vessel before performing the circuit with confidence as per Chapter 10 of the DOT workbook. This session usually takes 30 minutes to a 1 hour. Extra time is given to those if needed.

5. RST issued - The Theory test must be passed before moving on to the practical. Once the assessment criteria is demonstrated to the standards set by the Department of Transport an interim licence will be issued and paperwork submitted to DOT. They will then issue you with a plastic RST card within 3 months. If this does not occur you can contact them on 13 11 56.
