Slapdash Choir Illawarra 2025 - Term 1
Event description
This event is held on Dharawal Land. I acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, and the land we thrive and play on is inextricably bound to the songs and stories of First Nations peoples. Always was always will be Aboriginal land.
I’ve always sung, for as long as I can remember. The endorphins of singing have always surged through my blood, and I reckon it sucks that there aren’t more spaces to gently facilitate the discovery of singing together.Â
Slapdash Choir is back in Thirroul for 2025, in the pursuit of simplicity, community, participation, and harmony. The songs are simple and easy to learn, no reading sheet music or any of that nonsense, just repeat after me! Some world music from various traditions, pop bangers and cute little things that we can learn in just a few minutes! What began in Sydney as a tentative trial thing in 2023 has grown into a thriving community music super-organism, and has now been transplanted happily down into the Illawarra!
WHEN IS IT?:Â Terms in 2024Â will run for 6 weeks, with a few weeks break in between. Here are the dates for Term 1!
Wednesday nights, 7:00pm-8:30pm, 22nd of Janurary— 5th of March (no choir on 12th February beacuse I'll be away!)
You can buy a term ticket here for $60 ($10 per session) or rock up casually and pay $15 per session on the night (cash or online ticket purchase).
Venue: We are graciously hosted in the Excelsior Hall at Thirroul Library and Community Centre, plenty of parking and close to the station, so you could always catch the train there.Â
Attendance: Anyone and everyone are more than welcome to just drop in once, or come and go as your schedule allows. Buuuut, committing to a full term is encouraged for multiple reasons! It can be hard to commit to things in our busy lives, and I know as well as anyone the feeling of 'ugh I'm not at my best this week, work/life has been effed, I'm gonna just stay in'.Â
But the power of self-parenting is real, a firm voice of 'you said how much you want to do after-school soccer, now you are a part of a team and should honour that!' The sense of achievement and community only grows the more and more regularly you come, fostering connections by showing up. I invite you to take the plunge for the full term, and come along even if you're not at 100%, you can just exist as your 20% self and soak up the energy of the collective!

Any questions, shoot me a message. Be brave and take a leap, there is so much love and energy to tap into when you take a deep breath and sing!Â
