Slapdash Choir Illawarra 2025 - Term 2
Event description
This event is held on Dharawal Land. I acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, and the land we thrive and play on is inextricably bound to the songs and stories of First Nations peoples. Always was always will be Aboriginal land.
UPDATES for Term 2:
- We are changing from Wednesday evenings to Monday evenings starting this term, this is to continue using our beautiful retractable seating without clashing with other bookings.
- Slight changes in ticket prices ($70 per term, or $20 per casual session). This is to reflect that running choir has become more costly for me (booking hall fees, insurance, I'm making a website etc etc). If the cost of tickets is a barrier to coming along, please know that nobody will be turned away for lack of funds! If you can cover the cost of your ticket that is awesome and it helps me keep the lights on, but if you're in a financial pinch, please come along 'on the house!'
I’ve always sung, for as long as I can remember. The endorphins of singing have always surged through my blood, and I reckon it sucks that there aren’t more spaces to gently facilitate the discovery of singing together.
Slapdash Choir is back in Thirroul for 2025, in the pursuit of simplicity, community, participation, and harmony. The songs are simple and easy to learn, no reading sheet music or any of that nonsense, just repeat after me! All abilities are welcomed (especially if you've never sung before!) and there is not audition process, just come along and follow my lead. Some world music from various traditions, pop bangers and cute little things that we can learn in just a few minutes! What began in Sydney as a tentative trial thing a few years ago has been transplanted down into the Illawarra and turned into a thriving community music super-organism!
- WHEN IS IT? Slapdash runs on a 6-week term basis. These have nothing to do with school terms, they're just blocks that I've made up on my calendar. Each term runs for 6 weeks, with a about 3 weeks break in between each term.
Here are the dates for Term 2:
Monday nights, 7:00pm-8:30pm, 31st of March— 12th of May (no choir on Easter Monday, 21st of April)
- WHERE IS IT? We are graciously hosted in the Excelsior Hall at Thirroul Library and Community Centre, plenty of parking and close to the station, so you could always catch the train there.
- TICKETS? Term tickets ($70 for 6 weeks) are the cheapest and easiest way to commit to coming to most of the sessions, but you can always rock up casually and pay $20 per session on the night (either cash or Humanitix).
A note on attendance: Anyone and everyone are more than welcome to just drop in once, or come and go as your schedule allows! Buuuut, committing to a full term is encouraged for multiple reasons! It can be hard to commit to things in our busy lives, and I know as well as anyone the feeling of 'ugh I'm not at my best this week, work/life has been effed, I'm gonna just stay in'.
But the power of self-parenting is real, a firm voice of 'you said how much you want to do after-school soccer, now you are a part of a team and should honour that!' The sense of achievement and community only grows the more and more regularly you come, fostering connections by showing up. I invite you to take the plunge for the full term, and come along even if you're not at 100%, you can just exist as your 20% self and soak up the energy of the collective!

Any questions, shoot me a message. Be brave and take a leap, there is so much love and energy to tap into when you take a deep breath and sing!
