Join us for a screening of the acclaimed 2022 production of Sleeplessness, followed by an artist talk with creators Kaz Therese (writer /performer) and Anna Liebzeit (composer).
This special event discusses Kaz Therese’ practice of creating work from complex personal narrative and reflects on the impact and revelations of the artists experience and the broader socio - cultural implications. Kaz will be joined by collaborator Anna Liebzeit as they reflect on their collaboration spanning 20 years to create Sleeplessness.
Sleeplessness is a beautiful, haunting love song to family, migration and identity. Part mystery, part documentary, SLEEPLESSNESS tells the story of three generations of migrant women from working class, Western Sydney.

Artist bios.
Kaz Therese Kaz is an award-winning theatre maker, curator and cultural leader. A queer interdisciplinary artist working across theatre, visual arts and dance. Kaz is the Artistic Director of WEREWOLF CREATIONS exploring radical transformation in extreme times. Their practice explores class, erasure and presence. Current works include SLEEPLESSNESS commissioned by Carriageworks, THEY WILL BE KINGS presented at QTOPIA supported by Creative Australia and the upcoming TRIBUNALS HOME (working title) supported by Create NSW and Creative Australia MatchLab. From 2013-2020 Kaz was the Artistic Director of PYT Fairfield and FUNPARK, Mt Druitt. Currently Kaz is completing a Master of Creative Writing at the University of Sydney with Supervisor Dr Vanessa Berry.
Anna Liebzeit Anna is a multidisciplinary artist, composer, and educator working across performance, sound, video, and installation. Her practice explores hauntology, colonial noise, and institutional erasure, drawing on 30 years of experience teaching in First Nations contexts across prisons, TAFE, and universities. She holds a B.Ed (Visual Arts), Honours in Fine Art, a Master of Education, and is completing apractice-led PhD. Anna composed music for The Survival of Kindness (Berlinale Golden Bear nominee, 2023, dir. Rolf de Heer), and is a LearnX Platinum award winner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curriculum design.
