Slinky Physics Workshop - Wellington
Event description
This one-day workshop experimentally investigates the physics of the slinky spring using past IYPT problems.
It is for both students and teachers, attending as a school group or individually.
The workshop will reinforce the waves, mechanics and practical achievement standards of NCEA and their equivalent across other examinations. It will be especially useful for
Current year 12 students who plan to participate in the 2026 NZ Tournament or try for the NZ Representative team going to Zurich in July
Teachers new to the New Zealand Young Physicists' Tournament who want to support students through the Tournament in 2026
This is a full day workshop, between 9am and 4pm. We are providing lunch and refreshments in the breaks, plus a goodie bag for every student. We will also have workbooks for all participants including a teacher's version.
You should bring a water bottle and your phone to film some of your experiments, sometimes in slow motion. A laptop may also be useful for sides to present your work, but it is not essential as whiteboards are available. All experimental equipment will be provided.
The cost is $135 for a school group of up to four people, or $40 for individual teachers and students. Both prices are inclusive of GST.
